First Aid Course Type Information

General information about the content of our courses

We strive to enhance the health and safety of our communities by providing relevant first aid training that meets the needs of our clients. We hold our courses in a relaxed, friendly environment. They are taught by professional Trainers in a fun and interesting manner using quality materials relevant to New Zealanders. We focus our teaching on real life scenarios to help Learners develop the skills and confidence to respond in an emergency situation as well as to anticipate and prevent accidents from occurring. Upon completion you will be issued a certificate.

Practical Training Solutions is a registered Private Training Establishment (PTE). Our first aid courses are accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

Workplace First Aid Course
This course will equip you with the skills and confidence to deal with emergencies at home or at work. It covers unit standards 6400, 6401, 6402.  This is the course for anyone who requires a workplace first aid course that meets NZQA and WorkSafe requirements. The course is made up of 8.5 hours class time (usually taught in one day) and a 4 hour Self-directed Learning Module that Learners complete in their own time.

Revalidation First Aid Course
This course refreshes your first aid knowledge and is required in order to keep your certification current. To be eligible your current first aid certificate must be no older than 2 years and 3 months. The course is made up of 4 hours class time and Self-directed Learning Module that students complete in their own time.

Foundation First Aid Course
This course teaches gives you the skills to provide basic first aid to a patient while help is on its way. It covers unit standard 6402 and 6401.

CPR Course
This course teaches you the skills to care for patients who have stopped breathing. It covers unit standard 6402.

This course gives you the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to deliver first aid for a wide range of injuries and illnesses. It equips you to manage emergency situations. It is the recommended course for designated workplace first aiders. This course covers unit standards 6402, 6401 and 6400.

Course Duration
To meet NZQA requirements the Workplace First Aid course is a minimum of 12 hours long. Courses are made up of 8.5 hours class time (includes half an hour for lunch) and a 4 hour Self-directed Learning Module that learners complete in their own time.

Self-directed Learning Module
The Self-directed Learning Module and associated written assessment materials will be issued at the time of booking.

NZQA Unit Standards
The NZQA Unit Standards associated with this course are:

6400 – Manage first aid in emergency situations (level 3, 2 credits)
6401 – Provide first aid (level 2, 1 credit)
6402 – Provide resuscitation level 2 (level 1, 1 credit)

Practical Training Solutions can register these credits on your NZQA Record of Learning, if you provide us with your NZQA number. If you do not yet have an NZQA Record of Learning, we can tell you who to contact for this.

Schedule and booking
We have a comprehensive schedule of Workplace First Aid courses – the course is offered most days of the week.  The training session runs from 8:30am to 5pm (or 5:30pm to 9:30pm for the evening class). Course fee
The standard course fee for the Workplace First Aid course is $220. We offer a range of industry/sector, online booking and prompt payment discounts. To find out what discounts you are eligible for please view our sectors information.

Each participant is provided with a Practical Training Solutions Quick Reference First Aid Guide that serves as a practical reference for emergencies and contains relevant information and practical tips on the various topics covered during the course.

This course revalidates your previous first aid certificate. The Revalidation workplace first aid course refreshes your first aid knowledge and practical skills and ensures you maintain currency and confidence.

Course Duration
To meet NZQA requirements, the Revalidation course is a minimum of 6 hours long, made up of 4 hours training session time and a Self-directed Learning Module that learners complete in their own time.

Self-directed Learning Module 
The Self-directed Learning Module and associated written assessment materials will be issued at the time of booking.

NZQA Unit Standards
The Unit Standards associated with this course are based on the previous certificate.

Each participant is provided with a Quick Reference First Aid Guide that serves as an updated how-to for first aid emergencies and contains relevant information and practical tips on the various topics covered during the course.

This course provides you with the foundation first aid skills to deal with common injuries and illnesses for a single patient. This course covers unit standards 6402 and 6401.

To meet NZQA requirements the Foundation First Aid course is a minimum of 8 hours long. Courses are made up of a 6 hour training session and a 4 hour Self-directed Learning Module that learners complete in their own time.

The standard course fee for the Foundation First Aid course is $170. We offer an online booking discount of $10 and a prompt payment discount of $10, which reduce the course fee to $150. The prompt payment discount applies if payment is received at least 5 days before the course date.
