As we noted earlier, we do expect you to understand and reflect in your practical session delivery that:
“If you train and assess as designed, you are developing confident first aiders”
This means that if you deviate from the PTS training and assessment system, your learners will miss out and will likely leave the classroom less effective in their ability to provide first aid.
There are many ways to deviate from the PTS training and assessment system and deviations may occur for a lot of different reasons. Your role as a PTS trainer is to recognise deviations and manage situations in the classroom in a way that addresses the cause and ensures the practical session proceeds as designed.
So, what is deviation from the PTS training and assessment system and what can you do about it?
In the next three lessons we go through three types of deviation, apply them to the topic of shock, and explain how these deviations affect learners.
